PURPOSE

GREAT COMET PICS_edited.jpg

Heyy! I want to personally share this part: my thoughts of this thing we call theatre and how important it really is! I believe that theatre has extraordinary power and influence in how we know the world we live in. In deeper conversation, I often refer to theatre as society's mirror because of how theatre provides the world with a separated view of itself. Theatre is the mirror and we (theatre artists) make the reflection. All the stories we tell and narratives we share are reflections of the various ways that we are human. The various ways that OTHERS are human. That is how important we are. We allow society (our audience) to see who can be a hero, who can be the desired princess, who can be the "villan", who can be in distress, who can be the odd ball. Storytelling can show the humanity in all of these. Theatre/TV has shaped our understanding (or misunderstanding) of the world and the various people in it. My personal aspiration is for my art to demonstrate that women that look like me have variety. That we can be... the desired lover, the impressionable and youthfully naive; the curious intellectual; all these things and more! So with that said, no we might not be doctors conjuring up the next tangible cure, but we make a difference, undoubtedly beyond the stage. This is why I love what I do and why I continue to pursue this industry. The impact.

Down below are featured articles written about theatre and my pursuit of it as a black woman.
